Week 6
Literacy
Big Book: 3 Little Pigs
Phonics: this week we are looking at the sound ‘oi’. Activities for this sound along with our other sounds we have already taught can be found on Purple Mash and matching phonics books are on Bug Club. Also try to write words with this sound in them on your whiteboards and put them into sentences. E.g. oil, coin, soil, point.
HFW: this week's words are said and the. Practise writing these words each day. Can you think of a sentence that uses the words? For example: Can you see the book? Said Mum. We are going to the shop, said Dad. Now write the sentence sounding out the words you don't know.
Reading: Well done P2 Mrs Lyons/Mrs Currans class most books read in P2. Let’s try to get best year group at reading in Foundation Stage again this week. Primary 1 bet us last week! Remember to get on to Bug Club and read more books. You should be reading at least one book a day. Remember to click on the bugs in the book and answer the question. If you get it right the bug will fall asleep! Make them all fall asleep to close the book. Only closed books are counted!
Writing: this week we want you to tell us about two or three things you have done while not going to school. Remember to use our time words in your writing; First, Then, After that, Later on. Draw a picture to match your sentences. Get an adult to help you with the words you can't spell. Remember CAPITAL LETTERS, SPACES AND FULL STOPS! Try to read your sentences to an adult. Maybe you could take a photo of you with your picture and post it on Facebook or send it to your teacher’s email? We would love to see them.
Numeracy
This week in Numeracy we are revising the number work we have completed in past weeks. We are also going to look at o’clock times and also half past, using money to buy items up to 50p and finding change from 10p.
Time: This week show you child that the small hand at 6 means half past. Allow them to play with a clock if you have one showing you o’clock and half past times. Again keep this very practical at the beginning ask them to show you times, then get them to be the teacher and ask you to show times.
Money: revise all the coins to £1 and ask your child to tell you how much each is. Talk to them about two 1p’s is the same as a 2p and so on. Make a shop in the kitchen with items you have in the house. Get them to make price labels for them and then take turns being the shop keeper and then shopper. They should be able to give you the correct coins to buy the items. Help them if they need it, showing them how you would work it out. If you don’t have coins at home just make some out of paper or on the back of an old cereal box. We have included activities on Purple Mash and other online links to support this.
1) Log in to Bug Club and in My Stuff you should see an icon for Active Maths. Here you will find games that support the learning this week. The games this week are Bop a Bird, Mushroom Mayhem or Balloon Pop to name a few. Get on and have fun!
2) Log in to Purple Mash and play the number, time and money games we have added. Remember to save your work and then we can see it and comment on it.
